Tim Turk Hockey aims to develop hockey players to their fullest potential while maintaining their motivation. We create a POSITIVE, ENTHUSIASTIC and FUN program while incorporating Hockey team development training with all levels!
What Makes Us Different? ‘Control the Puck, Control the Game’
Technique is Everything! We understand the importance of shooting. Our focus is on teaching the proper techniques & mechanics that will give players the knowledge and confidence to implement their skills on the ice! If every player has the correct knowledge, then as a team the percentage of shots-on-goal will rise.
We begin with an Introductory-Evaluation session, to identify your team’s strengths and weaknesses. In Collaboration with the Coaches, subsequent sessions are tailored to suit the player’s skill level, and focus on attaining “total puck confidence” — the ability to shoot, pass and control the puck with ease.
Team Development may include training on:
Shooting – Proper techniques and mechanics in all quick release shots.
Phases of a Shot
– Control phase – Where the puck is located while in motion.
– Preparation phase – Getting the puck to a prepared position efficiently (Across, not back!)
– Loading Phase – Less load, more explode!
– Release Phase – Utilizing wrists to enhance speed & power.
Pre-scanning
– Allows for rapid decision making.
– Having your head up, processing before, during and after a shot opportunity.
Passing – Choosing when and using the proper techniques and mechanics in all types of passes.
Deception When Releasing the Puck
– Learn NEW lower body formations. Different positions to surprise the goalie = more scoring opportunities
– Being synchronized / timing.
Shooting and Passing off the Angles
– Skating towards the net from either side, looking to create a shooting angle. – Shooting for rebounds- where to shoot when on a bad angle using your shot off the goalie as a pass (rebound)
Shooting in stride – or appear in stride. Minimize pause time. Stride leg push for more power. Stride leg release with foot separation lowers posture, enhancing reaction time.
Shooting through traffic – How to locate the near target with your head up to get the puck to the net target.
Shooting in tight – How to get your blade under the puck using your wrists to maintain spin for a higher, quicker shot.
Shooting off a pass – Receiving a pass and putting the puck into a prepared position to shoot immediately. (on the tape / off the tape) – The 2 touch release is a NEW way to receive the pass and ‘impact’ it with speed and power, surprising the goalie.
One Timers – How to utilize your hips by lowering your posture to get more power.
Understanding the Goalies – Get to know their positioning, tendencies and habits. They have consistent behavior patterns. – Learn how and when to study them.
Team Development may also include Teaching Play in all the Zones
1. Defensive Zone – From coverage to breakouts for defensemen and forwards. Including positional guidelines and responsibilities.
2. Neutral Zone – From trapping to transition; proper angling, rapid puck movements and changing the point of attack. – How to support and create isolation and know your location through visual targets on the ice. – Create width and depth while counter attacking to ensure effective regrouping.
3. Offensive zone – Proper steering and angling in forechecking systems – Shooting with feet moving while under pressure – How to cycle, where to go and why – Screening with deflections and positioning – Attacking with and without puck possession – Basic techniques and progressions for effective puck protection – Face offs
